Your scar revision procedure
Because scars are so different, there are multiple surgical procedures that Dr. Ahmad used to alter the scar’s appearance.
The most common procedures include:
Re-excision
Surgery that removes the outer layer of a scar and assists with de-pigmentation.
Skin grafts
Transfer of tissue for one place of the body to the scar area.
Laser or Dermabrasion
Transfer of tissue for one place of the body to the scar area.
Tissue expansion
Surgical procedure that expands healthy tissue surrounding the scar in order to replace it.
Scar revision may also involve topical treatments and subdermal injections in order to adjust the colour and smoothness of the scar tissue:
Steroid injections
To assist with elevated, hypertrophic or keloidal scars reducing them in size.
Lightening creams
To assist with depigmentation.
Whatever the treatment used, the result is scar tissue that more closely resembles the surrounding skin.

What to Expect Right After Scar Revision
Scar revision is an outpatient procedure typically performed under local anesthesia. In most cases, patients can return to work as early as the day after surgery, provided the scar is not located in an area that interferes with daily activities.
Long-Term Care for Scar Healing
Mild pain at the surgical site is common for the first 1–2 weeks, along with some swelling, bruising, and temporary discoloration. These effects gradually subside as the area heals.
To protect the scar and minimize pigmentation, it is essential to apply sunscreen to the incision area for at least one year following the procedure.
